Sophomore Student Research in Intercultural Business Communication: 

Interacting with Business Professionals

Today’s business leaders need to be able to communicate with people from a wide range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Being able to use English proficiently is key, but linguistic skills are not enough on their own. In order to communicate effectively and persuasively, you also need to understand the people with whom you are communicating. This lecture will introduce you to the importance of learning about foreign cultures in order to improve your communication skills, before looking at some of the ways in which students have put their intercultural communication skills into practice over the last year. In particular, it explores how sophomore students have interacted with international business professionals in Shanghai and beyond.

主讲人简介

Dr. Russell Palmer

Dr. Russell Palmer teaches courses on Western culture and cross-cultural business communication in the School of Foreign Studies, and holds a PhD from Ghent University, Belgium. His research and publications focus on material, textual, and commodity cultures of the Western world in early and late modernity. Before embarking on an academic career, he worked for a decade in an international business environment.
