聊一聊新上线的美剧《小谢尔顿》
《生活大爆炸》的衍生剧Young Sheldon于美国时间9.25日上映了，媒体是这样报道的：
1⃣️ 'Young Sheldon' Gets Full-Season Order From CBS After Strong Debut
从这里我们知道Young Sheldon是CBS公司拍摄的，它的debut（ /ˈdeıˌbjuː/，“首映”的意思）非常的成功，因此获得了全季的预定（Season是“季”，episode是“集”）。
打开标题后，文章的第一段是这样的：
On the heels of Young Sheldon's stellar Monday premiere, CBS has given a full-season pickup to the Big Bang Theory spinoff with an order for nine additional episodes, bringing the comedy’s freshman total to 22 episodes. It is the first new series of the 2017-18 season to receive a full-season pickup.
这里我们可以学到:
on the heels of 👠和标题中的after意思差不多，表示“紧随其后”。类似的常见表达还有in the wake of。
stellar Monday premiere🎬和标题中的strong debut对应，premiere也是“首映”的意思。美剧的第一集一般也叫做pilot，“试播集”。
spinoff的本意是“副产品”，在这里表示“受欢迎的书籍、电影、电视连续剧等的派生产品”。
2⃣️ "Young Sheldon" makes rating history even as network sitcoms seem on death's door
标题中的"make rating history"和上面的"strong debut" "stellar premiere"对应。点开标题后前两段是这样的：
As if the brand potency of “The Big Bang Theory” needed further proving, its spinoff “Young Sheldon” debuted to gargantuan numbers Monday night on CBS, making it the biggest comedy premiere in four years.
这里的spinoff和premiere又出现了，顺便学到debut原来也可以作为动词使用！
形容数量之大我们可能会想到huge，这里用的是更夸张的一个词gargantuan。读书会这个月共读的Elon Musk传记中就出现了一些表达“巨大”的词，大家感受一下：
As the food arrived, Musk consumed it. That is, he didn’t eat it as much as he made it disappear rapidly with a few gargantuan bites. （Musk三下五除二就解决了食物）
The structure looks like a gargantuan, rectangular glacier that’s been planted in the midst of a particularly soulless portion of Los Angeles County’s sprawl.（SpaceX不是一般的大）
The afterglow of this mammoth victory faded soon after the party ended, and the severity of SpaceX’s financial hell became top of mind again for Musk. （“巨大的”成功）
The poster on the right shows a Mars with a humongous green landmass surrounded by oceans. （一望无际、广阔的绿地）
“Our competitors are scared shitless of us,” Shotwell told the group. “The behemoths are going to have to figure out how to get it together and compete. And it is our job to have them die.” （behemoths是名词，在这里表示商业巨头）

Young Sheldon的首映有多gargantuan呢？第二段有具体的说明：
How huge was it? According to Nielsen's final broadcast primetime live plus same day ratings, 17.2 million viewers tuned in to see the nine-year-old version of Sheldon Cooper (played by Iain Armitage) in his wonder years. That number includes an impressive 3.8 rating among the adults 18-49 demographic that’s most desirable to advertisers. Even more importantly, “Young Sheldon” maintained 98 percent of the total audience from its lead-in, “The Big Bang Theory,” which entered its 11th season to the tune of 17.7 million viewers and 4.1 in the target demo, its highest tick since December 2015.
这里我们顺便学习了tune in，表示“收看”。在电台节目中经常可以听到这个词。，例如“欢迎收看/听”就可以说Thank you for tuning in"，“稍后请继续收看/听”就可以说Stay tuned.
3. Big Bang Theory spin-off Young Sheldon is a HUGE hit
看完了前两则新闻后，这一则看标题就全懂了。不过这里的hit是什么意思？在昨天和大家分享的Who Was Steve Jobs读书笔记中我就提到了这个词：
Toy Story became the most popular movie of the year. Pixar went on to make a dozen hit movies in a row.
hit这个词在全书出现了4次，都是表示“轰动一时的作品”💥，也就是我们说的“爆款”。例如The song became a massive hit in 1945. 这首歌在1945年风靡大江南北。
如果你喜欢《生活大爆炸》，喜欢Sheldon的话，一定要看看这部剧 -- 因为他是Sheldon啊！在看《生活大爆炸》的时候，我一直在想Sheldon是怎么能活到今天的... 在这部剧中可能会看到一些答案。
从语言上来说，这部剧比较简单，主要场景是在家庭和学校。大家如果是看美剧学英文的话，我建议第一遍不看任何字幕，边听边简单的做笔记。第二遍看的时候加载英文字幕多注意自己之前没有听出来的地方。保证自己看完能学到几个表达就好了，一边娱乐一边学习。例如在第一集中我学到ticket taker （检票员），rat...out(打某人的小报告）, Purell （一种洗手液的品牌），per可以表示“according to”。
