In recent months a string of（一系列） countries, from Japan to Switzerland, Colombia to Israel, have tried to drive down the value of their currencies（货币）. Some experts call it “competitive devaluation(竞争性贬值.” Others, though, argue that it is nothing short of （不啻于）a currency war—and far from boosting global recovery（推动全球经济复苏）, it threatens to undermine（破坏） it. So concerned（关注） are policy makers that the issue looks set to dominate talks on Friday at a meeting of finance ministers（财长） and central bankers（央行行长）.Dominique Strauss-Kahn, managing director（总干事） of the International Monetary Fund（国际货币基金组织）,which hosts（主持） the meeting in Washington, set out the concerns in the Financial Times on Tuesday. “There is clearly the idea beginning to circulate（流通） that currencies can be used as a policy weapon. Translated into action, such an idea would represent a very serious risk to the global recovery,” he said.
