Who is Lifeline?


Lifeline is a 100% volunteer-based non-profit organization that operates an English-speaking helpline service for the community across China. Lifeline began its operations in Shanghai in 2004 and is a member of Lifeline International, which comprises 17 countries across the globe. At Lifeline we believe that mental health is crucial to well-being and a healthy lifestyle and that everyindividual has the right to be listened to in an anonymous, confidential environment.


Lifeline supports the World Health Organization statement: "There is no health without mental health"



What is Lifeline?


Lifeline is a mental health support helpline. Lifeline helpline assistants are ready to listen to and offer an emotional support service that respects everyone's right to be heard, understood, and cared for. Callers get support from our trained volunteers during difficult times to help them gain another perspective and connect them with other support services as needed.



Who can use Lifeline’s services?


Lifeline is a service available to all English-speaking individuals in China.


Is Lifeline confidential?


Confidentially is the cornerstone of our service. Callers are never asked to identify themselves in anyway and information are not disclosed without the informed consent of the caller.


Why do people call Lifeline?


Our essential helpline service provides emotional support and information to our callers to help get them through difficult times. Our trained volunteers are available to provide a safe source of support for individuals in times of emotional distress or crisis.


How much does it cost?


Lifeline is a 100% volunteer organization and as such we are able to offer our helpline service FREE to all our callers.


How can people access Lifeline?


Lifeline’s hotline service is available 12 hours a day from 10 am -10 pm, 365 days a year.
