Established in 2020, the Peking University International Summer Institute (PKUISI) is dedicated to providing students from around the world with accurate and concise information on the summer programs Peking University offers each year so students can make informed choices and select the summer program which best matches their needs.
The PKUISI is not only about promoting diversity, it also offers a holistic learning experience for all students by connecting all summer school programs through a common theme.
The theme set by PKUISI will change from year to year to reflect global trends and offer students a memorable experience at PKU. Given the special circumstances facing us in 2020, the theme for this year’s Peking University International Summer Institute is “A Journey to China from Your Room,” and it consists of 3 programs:
The PKU Chinese Language Summer School (PKUCLSS) lets you study the Chinese language, practice Chinese calligraphy, and learn more about Chinese culture.
The PKU Summer School International (PKUSSI) offers a buffet of interdisciplinary subjects, giving you access to courses covering specialized topics relevant to today’s world.
The PKU-UChicago International Policy Action Lab (IPAL) provides a space where you can discuss policy research with renowned scholars from PKU and the University of Chicago.
These programs combined give you the chance to develop your academic skills, expand your social and professional networks, and broaden your horizons all from the safety and comfort of your own home… and they require nothing but a mobile phone, a laptop, and an internet connection.

STUDY ROOM
PKU Chinese Language Summer School
The PKU Chinese Language Summer School welcomes students from all over the world with an interest in the Chinese language. Every year, about 300 international students from more than 30 countries participate in the program.
The summer school is offered through four-week, six-week, or eight-week inclusive Chinese programs, a four-week advanced-level Business Chinese program, and a four-week English-Chinese Translation program. These programs also come with a series of free lectures on interesting facets of Chinese society and culture to help students better understand China.

PKU Summer School International
Since opening its door in 2009, PKU Summer School International (PKUSSI) has experienced burgeoning growth thanks to the dedication of PKU faculty and staff, as well as the participation of faculty and students from all over the world.
Aiming to provide international students with an accessible and high-quality platform to understand China, we tap into the brilliant pool of the university's faculty, and its international network of experts, to develop and offer a portfolio of courses that include the humanities, social sciences, and interdisciplinary studies.

The PKU-UChicago International Policy Action Lab offers students an opportunity to learn the evidence-based approach of conducting international policy research from top scholars at Peking University and the University of Chicago, and build data analytics skills in only three weeks!
