Continental breaks ground on new production facility in Shanghai

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On May 24, Continental Automotive Systems (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Continental AG, broke ground on the fourth phase of its factory in Jiading district, Shanghai city, according to a post on Continental AG’s WeChat account.

The new facility covers an area of approximately 28,000 square meters and is scheduled for operation in the second half of 2025. It will primarily focus on producing the products of Continental AG’s Safety & Vehicle Dynamics Business Group and the Autonomous Driving & Mobility Solutions Business Group.

The aforesaid Phase Ⅳ intelligent factory project will include two-story production workshops, a fully automated intelligent warehouse, as well as offices and an employee cafeteria. It will be connected to the existing plant via a pedestrian bridge.

Besides, the factory will be built to achieve LEED Gold certification for green building. It will be equipped with digital information systems, intelligent energy management systems, advanced safety and fire protection systems, as well as smart administration and attendance management systems.

In the future, the Phase Ⅳ factory will also continuously upgrade its production and logistics facilities to incorporate more Industry 4.0 elements, such as automated three-dimensional warehousing systems and production forecasting supported by artificial intelligence.

Established in 2001, Continental Automotive Systems (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.’s factory is located in Jiading Industrial Zone, Shanghai. Covering a total floor area of around 72,565 square meters, it has had over 1,400 staff members. The factory produces a range of products, including Anti-lock Braking Systems, Electronic Stability Control Systems, Line Control Systems, millimeter-wave radars, multifunctional cameras, and surround-view cameras.
