芭芭拉·梅德森是美国当代版画艺术的实践者和美国学院版画代表人物之一，在长年的艺术创作和学术研究上具有卓越的成就。她的作品不仅有鲜明的个性语言、清晰的创作脉络，而且是自上世纪八十年代以来美国当代艺术及其观念演变发展的缩影和精彩呈现。

Barbara Madsen is a practitioner of contemporary American printmaking and one of the leading figures of American Academy printmaking. She has accomplished remarkable achievements in her extensive years of artistic creation and academic research. Her works have a distinctive individual language and clear creative trajectory, which embody and present the evolution of American contemporary art and its concepts since the 1980s.

本次展览共展出芭芭拉·梅德森不同创作阶段的52件艺术作品，其中版画49件。芭芭拉也曾采用传统技法印制具有当代精神的抽象凹版作品，展现出她的艺术灵性和对美的感悟。后来在艺术实践精神的驱动下，基于形式语言的多样性和个人主观意识的呈现，她的作品故意突破边界和限定, 甚至打破二维和三维的视觉界限, 以此来挑战美术史和艺术美学支持的审美惯式。

This exhibition features 52 artworks by Barbara Madsen in various stages, including 49 prints. Barbara has also used traditional techniques and skills to print abstract intaglio works with a contemporary spirit, demonstrating her artistic spirituality and aesthetic perception. Later, driven by the spirit of artistic practice, Barbara deliberately broke the boundaries and limits of her works, even breaking the visual boundaries between two-dimensional and three-dimensional worlds, in order to embody the variety of formal languages and present her personal subjective consciousness, challenging the aesthetic conventions supported by art history and art aesthetics.

她赋予一些日常工业小物件自然属性和生命力，结合跨媒介的表现形式，致敬劳动者的同时，关注这个世界工业化和数字化发展所带来的环境问题和社会问题。在这些作品中，强化了立体感的玩具构件和抽象表达并置，朴素的黑白灰与艳丽饱和的色彩共存，从而以跨越阶层、种族、性别的幽默和视觉冲击力量，引发观者的审美兴致和共鸣。

She gives natural properties and life to some small industrial objects used in everyday life. She creates these objects in a cross-media expression that pays tribute to the workers while focusing on the environmental and social issues brought by industrialization and digital development. In these works, Barbara intensified the juxtaposition of three-dimensional toy components and abstract expressions, where the juxtaposition of the simple black, white, and gray colors with other vibrant and saturated colors creates a humorous and visually striking force that transcends class, race, and gender to evoke aesthetic interest and resonance in the viewers.

芭芭拉·梅德森是首位受邀在齐凤阁版画史学馆举办个案研究展的外国版画家。秉持学术引领和国际化的办展理念，史学馆将中外版画名家个案作为学术研究的重要方向，从艺术史的角度梳理中外版画发展的脉络，希望以此来加强观澜版画基地的学术建设，为中外版画艺术和文化交流作出我们的贡献。

Barbara Madsen is the first foreign printmaker to be invited to hold a case study exhibition at the Qi Fengge Museum of the History of Printmaking. The Museum adheres to the concept of academic leadership and internationalization, and takes the cases of famous Chinese and foreign printmakers as an important direction of academic research. We sort out the development context of artistic creation of Chinese and foreign printmaking from the perspective of art history, hoping to strengthen the academic construction of Guanlan Original Printmaking Base and make contributions to the artistic and cultural exchanges between Chinese and foreign printmaking circles.

芭芭拉·梅德森是一位艺术家，现任新泽西州罗格斯大学梅森格罗斯艺术学院（Mason Gross School of the Arts）的艺术研究生项目主任以及罗格斯版画合作项目（Rutgers Print Collaborative）的主任。

Barbara Madsen is an artist and Director of the MFA program at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, New Jersey and the Director of the Rutgers Print Collaborative.
