Ren Xianliang attends AI for Good Global Summit 2024 in Geneva


The World Internet Conference (WIC) will leverage its membership advantages to build bridges for international exchange and standardization cooperation in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry, fostering healthy and orderly industrial development, said Ren Xianliang, secretary-general of the WIC.

Ren made the remarks at the AI for Good Global Summit 2024, where he emphasized the importance of global collaboration in AI standardization. The summit was held by the International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) in Geneva on May 30.

In his address at the discussion titled "Harmonizing global collaborations in AI industry: A Roundtable on the future of AI standardization, regulation and industry development," Ren called for AI standardization stakeholders worldwide to adhere to the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits. He advocated an attitude of openness and coordination to facilitate cross-national, cross-sector and cross-cultural exchanges and collaborations.

Ren highlighted the WIC's ongoing efforts to promote positive and beneficial AI application. In June 2023, it launched the World Internet Conference AI for Social Good Action Plan (2023-2025). He expressed the WIC's readiness to collaborate with international organizations, academic institutions, NGOs, and enterprises to advance the use of AI in public welfare and to promote global AI public welfare projects.

During summit, Ren met with Tomas Lamanauskas, deputy secretary-general of ITU. He congratulated ITU on the successful organization of the summit and expressed gratitude for ITU's longstanding support of the WIC.

Ren affirmed the WIC's commitment to deepening its cooperation with ITU, particularly in building international exchange platforms for AI technology to benefit people worldwide.

Lamanauskas warmly welcomed Ren and his delegation to the summit. He noted that the significant influence of the WIC Wuzhen Summit on the global stage and its high regard within the international community.Lamanauskas praised the WIC's efforts and achievements in the AI sector and expressed anticipation for continued cooperation in AI expert resource sharing and standardization, working together to promote the healthy development of global AI.

The AI for Good Global Summit 2024, scheduled from May 30 to 31 at the Geneva International Conference Center, was jointly organized by ITU, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and the World Health Organization, in collaboration with the Swiss government. Since its inception in 2017, the summit has been a key platform for global dialogue and exchange in the AI field.
