The communique of the fifth plenary session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was released on Thursday.

10月19日，中国共产党第十九届中央委员会第五次全体会议公报发布。

The communique was passed at the session held in Beijing from Oct. 26 to 29.

公报于10月26日至29日举行的第十九届中央委员会第五次全体会议上通过。

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, made an important speech at the session.

The plenary session heard and discussed a work report that Xi delivered on behalf of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, it said. The session also adopted the CPC Central Committee's proposals for the formulation of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) for National Economic and Social Development and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035. Xi explained the draft document to the plenary session.

全会听取和讨论了习近平受中央政治局委托作的工作报告，审议通过了《中共中央关于制定国民经济和社会发展第十四个五年规划和二〇三五年远景目标的建议》。习近平就《建议（讨论稿）》向全会作了说明。

The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld a 17-year prison sentence handed down by an appeals court for former President Lee Myung-bak on embezzlement and bribery charges.

当地时间29日，韩国最高法院对前总统李明博涉嫌贪污受贿案进行终审宣判，维持二审判决结果，判处李明博17年有期徒刑。

In February, the Seoul High Court sentenced the 78-year-old to 17 years in prison, a fine of 13 billion won ($10.9 million) and a forfeit of 5.7 billion won.

今年2月，首尔高等法院判处78岁的李明博17年有期徒刑，并处以130亿韩元罚款（约合人民币7710万元），追缴约57亿韩元（约合人民币338万元）。

The former president, who governed the country from 2008-2013, was charged in April 2018 with 16 counts of criminal allegations, including embezzlement in connection with the auto parts company DAS and receiving bribes from various companies and individuals, including Samsung Electronics Co.

China will pilot "quiet carriages" services on the Beijing-Shanghai High Speed Railway starting from December 23, aiming to offer a more tranquil and comfortable ambiance for passengers, according to the Beijing-Shanghai High Speed Railway Co. Ltd.

据京沪高铁消息，12月23日起京沪高铁将试点“静音车厢”服务，旨在为旅客提供更加安静舒适的旅行环境。

In a quiet carriage, onboard videos will be muted, and announcements will be made at a lower volume. Doors at the ends of the carriage will be kept closed to reduce noise from the vestibule.

静音车厢将禁止使用电子设备时外放声音，并且用较低的音量播放车厢广播。车厢两端的屏蔽门将保持关闭，以减少通道的噪音。

Rules on passenger conduct in quiet carriages will be further specified, according to the company. Passengers willing to obey the rules can choose "quiet carriage" when booking tickets on the official website or mobile app 12306.

京沪高铁表示，将对旅客行为规范进一步细化，旅客可通过 12306网站和手机客户端等购票途径自行选择“静音车厢”，选择前提就是愿意遵守相应的行为规范。

The railway company will also initiate a flexible pricing mechanism, offering preferential ticket prices for commuters and frequent travelers.
