Geoffrey David Hilton is now a sophomore studying in School of Management and Economics (SME) at CUHK-Shenzhen. He has been interested in Chinese culture, keen on inernational experiences for a long time and believes in the value of diligence and reliability.
置身于全球化的时代，又身处融汇中西的学校，你是否思考过该如何培养自己的国际视野，融入国际环境之中？Geoffrey是一名港中深大二国际生，这位来自加拿大的留学生秉承勤学品质，沉醉于中国文化，积极拥抱多元文化，用实际行动展示了他的答案。

A Hong Kong friend introduced Geoffrey to Chinese culture during high school. Starting in Grade 10 in Canada, he has been learning Chinese, which enables him to have daily communication in the language. Before coming to Shenzhen for study, Geoffrey had been to Sichuan and cities around Shanghai to take a glance of the country. Ultimately, he ended up in Shenzhen in southern China, a greener city than anywhere else he had seen with satisfying air quality, as quoted.
Geoffrey与中国的缘分始于高中。自被香港的朋友介绍了中国文化后，他便逐渐开始了解这个遥远的东方国家，并开始学习中文。经过多年的中文学习，他现在已能用中文进行日常对话。在选择来到深圳求学之前，他曾前往四川、上海以及其周边城市去实地了解这个国家。最终，Geoffrey选择了深圳，因为对他来说，相比其他城市，这座城市更能让人随意呼吸到“绿色”。
Beijing is nevertheless a place where Geoffrey finds it difficult to breathe. However, he made history there. At the 2018 BFSUMUN, Geoffrey won the Honorable Mentioned of UNICEF at the French Committee, and together with his teammates, they shared the Best Delegation Award with China Foreign Affairs University. Competing with other strong delegations from the top universities in China, despite of relatively limited knowledge in French, Geoffrey and his team managed to present outstanding performances at the conference, in which Geoffrey’s previous MUN experiences could not be ignored.
北京的空气给Geoffrey留下的城市印象并不美妙，但他却在这块土地上留下了浓墨重彩的一笔。2018年，Geoffrey与队友一同参加了北京外国语大学模拟联合国大会，在法语会场获得了"荣誉提名"奖，并和队友一起与外交学院共同获得了最佳代表团奖。在模联中，Geoffrey与队友虽然需要用他并不很擅长的法语沟通，但语言上的障碍并未阻止他们共同克服重重挑战，最终仍得以在众多优秀的队伍中脱颖而出。
Geoffrey has been actively involved in Model UN activities since high school. Those events had helped him have a better understanding of the rules and procedures as well as build confidence in public speaking and sophistication in conducting research. In the moment, Geoffrey is still taking an active part in campus MUN activities.
早在高中，对国际活动的兴趣与积极参与模拟联合国大会的宝贵经历使Geoffrey得以熟记国际活动的流程与规章，能够自信地站在众人前演讲，亦能在调查研究时学会细致全面。如今，他仍积极地参与其热爱的校内模联活动，不断提升自我。
The engagement in MUN apparently shows Geoffrey’s interest in getting international experiences. As a matter of fact, part of his reason for coming to China is to try to bridge the two countries. When talking about future career plans, Geoffrey also showed an aspiration to work in international development companies, contributing to governmental decision-making and institutional establishments.
对参与国际经历的兴趣、在两国间建立起友好交往桥梁的美好愿景，都是Geoffrey来到中国的重要原因。在关于未来的畅想中，他希望能加入国际发展公司，学习如何参与政府决策和建立政策，更好地为全球化浪潮下的世界服务。
As globalization keeps rising, we might as well build a global vision and play a better role as global citizens in an increasingly connected world. Geoffrey has made great advances on the path, and we can also give it a shot.
原联合国秘书长科菲·安南曾在一封致模联的信中写道：“联合国依靠世界上每个人的努力而存在，尤其是像你们这样的青年。这个世纪，不久就会是你们的。”在这样一个充满挑战的全球化时代，用国际视野来思考问题是身为青年人的我们必不可少的技能。Geoffrey在用自己的行动证明该如何做一个拥有全球视野的世界公民，如何在多元的文化背景下拥抱多种可能。随着世界的联系越来越紧密，文化的交融汇聚越来越丰沛，作为世界公民的我们是否也应该开始做些什么了呢？
