从《敦刻尔克》中学英文涨姿势
最近被诺兰的新片《敦刻尔克》刷屏了吧？刚刚在电影院看完《敦刻尔克》，和大家分享一些和这部电影有关的英文。
1. Dunkirk
片名《敦刻尔克》的英文是Dunkirk，英国人习惯把它的重音放在后面（电影中读的就是/dʌn'kə:k/），美国人一般会把重音放在前面，读成/'dʌnkərk/。推荐大家一个标注名字音标和示范发音的网站：http://www.pronouncenames.com
2. Mole
影片一开始出现了一个小标题The Mole。我的第一翻译是“那颗痣”
对于一个不熟悉二战历史的美国人来说，看到这个词，他可能会想到它的另外两个意思“鼹鼠”和“间谍”。如果你看过电影了，一定记得有这样一幕：在一艘搁浅的船中，为了减轻重量让船浮起来，船上必须下去一个人。有人怀疑其中的一个人是德国间谍（其实他是法国兵），非要让他下船。另外，这个法国兵是换了英国兵的衣服才混上船的，mole可能也是这个意思。
mole在电影中表示“痣”和“间谍”只是我的个人猜想，这个词在这里的实际意思是：“防波堤”, 英文解释是A mole is a massive structure, usually of stone, used as a pier, breakwater, or a causeway between places separated by water.
3. 瓮中捉鳖
电影中有这样一段对话：
The enemy tanks have stopped.
Why?
Why waste precious tanks when they can pick us off from the air like fish in a barrel?
眼看德军坦克马上全歼盟军的时候，希特勒下了一个至今都匪夷所思的命令：停止进攻。具体原因不详，电影中给出的解释是德国想用飞机投弹，以最小的牺牲换取胜利。
这段话中我们可以学到两个表达：pick off和fish in a barrel.
pick off在这里指的是to aim and shoot someone，飞机瞄准目标，射击或者投掷炸弹，一个一个放倒。fish in a barrel我想是来自英语习语“shooting fish in a barrel”，表示“易如反掌” “得来全不费功夫”，电影字幕译为“瓮中捉鳖”。
4. 丘吉尔的演讲
电影最后出现了丘吉尔的一段演讲，他的话给了士兵们莫大的安慰和鼓舞。这段演讲的标题是We Shall Fight on Beaches，电影中出现了下面这段节选：
Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.

看到这里我的眼睛湿润了，我的第一反应是：这TM和大学《高级英语》中背过的那篇好像啊！《高级英语》第一册第五课就是丘吉尔的一篇演讲Speech on Hitler's Invasion of the U.S.S.R.，不过那是在敦刻尔克大撤退一年后，当德国入侵苏联时（1941年）发表的。摘录一段大家感受一下：
From this nothing will turn us – nothing. We will never parley; we will never negotiate with Hitler or any of his gang. We shall fight him by land, we shall fight him by sea, we shall fight him in the air, until, with God's help, we have rid the earth of his shadow and liberated its peoples from his yoke.
除了林肯的《葛底斯堡演说》（Gettysburg Address），建议大家背上一两段丘吉尔的演讲。不背的话也要至少读上个100遍，如果你是英语专业的话，要求高一点，要一字不差地背下来哦 -- 尽管很快你就会像我一样忘得一干二净。
